Art is The Cure (AITC)

Had a meeting this morning with Rich Simmons and Graham over at the Art is The Cure HQ in Norwood Junction. There studio is awesome, floor to ceiling murals and amazing street art propped up all over the place, as well as covering every possible surface.

Am pleased to be able to announce that 4WD Foundation will be working in partnership with AITC and Ignite on a few youth projects based at AITC HQ this summer. For more info on Art is The Cure watch this short (pretty old school!) video featuring founder Rich Simmons:

Tomorrow Rich will be creating a street piece outside the Opera Gallery prior to featuring alongside the likes of Banksy and D*Face at The Street Art Show, which he has kindly invited me and Goldie to! My first ever art gallery private party invite! Apparently Hugh Grant is on the guest list and there is free champagne…

RSA Lecture – Who’s Failing Our Kids? – Audio

A few months ago I was invited to speak at the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) on a panel regarding who is failing the children of Britain.

I felt honoured to be on a panel alongside Katharine Birbalsingh, John D’Abbro and Michael Gernon.

Here is the audio: Who’s Failing our Kids? (Please click the link to access)

I totally forgot that it would be uploaded online so apologies for the delay in getting it up!

I am now featured on the RSA speakers archive HERE.

Save the Arts in Croydon!

The Clocktower Arts Centre in Croydon along with its Arts Participation programme is facing massive cuts and possible closure in 2011.

The council is considering five options for the future of the Arts Service in Croydon. These options range from keeping everything the same (saving no money) to cutting almost all service functions.

Options 3 and 4 will affect the Arts Participation function AKA “Clocktower arts participation activities for young people, people with learning disabilities, refugees and schools“.

Arts Participation at The Clocktower delivers a range of projects including Club Soda events run by people with learning disabilities, IGNITE arts events run by and for young people, Perpanata a theatre company for young refugees, as well as year round opportunities for local schools to workshop with some of the UK’s most exciting theatre and arts companies.

If Arts Participation in Croydon were cut it would mean: Read more of this post

STREET | TALK UK Student Demo Special

Big up my homeboy Kevin Lanre on the mic for Street | Talk UK getting a pretty balanced collection of views during one of the recent student demos.

Shout out to Babs Williams, Co-Founder of New Turn who makes an awful lot of sense, particularly with his final point.

“This is a situation the whole country is going through” – Babs Williams

The amazingly articulate Babs was one of the speakers at 2morro 2010 – the ideas festival that I hosted this Summer.

Great networking event for young entrepreneurs!

I am really looking forward to opportunity to network with like-minded graduates and entrepreneurs at The Net Location’s Social Networking Party this Wednesday 27th October 2010 at Graphic Bar, Golden Square, London.

Finally someone has noticed the niche and taken the initiative to organise a networking event for young graduates, professionals and entrepreneurs in London. It’s been a long time coming!

An intellectual crowd, adventurous cocktails, delicious food, good music, a professional photographer and a magician are all promised to make the networking night one to remember.

Even better it is free to attend so for full details and to get on the guestlist go to www.TheNetLocation.com or send an email to rsvp@thenetlocation.com with your full name and occupation.

The party kicks off at 7pm so I look forward to seeing you there!

Well done TeamGEA!

So today I had a de-briefing meeting with the wonderful Livity crew (big ups to Mark & Oyin particularly for all their hard work!) who we (The 4WD Foundation) worked with to create and deliver the Google Enterprise Apprenticeships Programme, which is now fondly known as #TeamGEA. Preparations for the next phase of GEA are already under way, very exciting stuff!

It was an absolute pleasure to work with and support 10 fantastically talented and motivated young entrepreneurs over such an intensive 3 week period.
